Foster Information

Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster home for OK Yorkie Rescue. We can only help as many dogs as we have space for! We hope you find the following information helpful in your quest to become a volunteer foster family for OKYR.

 An OKYR volunteer in your area will review your application and contact you for a visit at your home. Foster homes are screened in the same manner as potential adoptive homes. Once approved, the foster home will receive a Yorkie that appears to be compatible. An OKYR mentor will be available as a source of information and experience, to all new foster homes.

The foster home provides for the foster Yorkie as if he were their own. This includes, but is not limited to: food, indoor shelter, bedding, toys, heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, basic training, positive reinforcement and of course, lots of TLC! As the foster parent, you would also need to send our webmaster information about the dog (including a picture) for posting on the website. There is a specific "enrollment form" for this purpose. Our target is for the dog to stay with the foster home for at least 1-2 weeks so that you may get to know the dog and his habits, as it is an invaluable way to ensure the most proper placement possible. Some Yorkies may be at a foster home much longer than a few weeks. .
