About Us

OKYR is a 501C (3) non-profit corporation. We are completely funded by donations and volunteers. All donations go towards to health and welfare of our rescues.

Our Team

We are completely made up of volunteers. Our volunteers are from walks of life, both women and men, and all ages. We all have some things in common, our passion for Yorkies, to stop the suffering of miss treatment dogs, and to stop puppy mills. We can always use more help. So, if you would like to help, just let us know.

Our Mission

Is to help Yorkie, Yorkie Mixes, and Biewer Terriers, whether they came from the streets, an animal shelter, surrendered by an owner, rescued from a puppy mill or a dog auction. They will have the vet attention that they need. We will educate the public on why they should rescue a pet. We will be their voice when no one else will speak for them. Every dog that enters our rescue will have another chance at love, no matter what flaw they may have.

How we got started

We really do have a unique story.

Kelly, our president, wanted add another Yorkie to her family, so she started looking on petfinder.com and found Lily. She had never had a rescue dog before, let alone a former puppy mill dog, and had no idea what to expect. It took two weeks before she could even pet Lily without her running off. Kelly didn’t understand how people could do this to animals and decided that something needed to be done. There were no local Yorkie rescues so she decided that she would start her own.

Kelly belonged to several online communities that supported Yorkie owners, all over the world. So, she posted the idea of starting a rescue on the forums. There 2 others answered the call. None of us had met before and came from different areas of Oklahoma.

That was the spring of 2008. Here we are today with over 40 volunteers and countless Yorkies (and sometimes others) saved and placed in a loving home.
